Literacy is an indispensable means for effective social and economic participation, contributing to human development and poverty reduction.
In India we have more than 296 million illiterates, age seven years and above. I firmly believe that any small step towards educating people would be a big leap into a brighter future for our country. I feel that our ability to help in this noble cause can positively change the lives of many underprivileged people in India.
Strides of Hope 2009: Strides of Hope is a flagship fundraising program of Asha for Education. Here runners come together to run a marathon (26.2 miles)/half marathon(13.1 miles)/relay (26.2 miles covered by 5 runners) of their choice (usually the White Rock Marathon in Dallas) to raise money for Asha Dallas, which supports numerous projects for underprivileged children in India
This year i am running my first half marathon with Team Asha on 13th December 2009 and i have made a goal to raise 1320$($100 per mile) to support the cause for education in India.
With your support i am sure i would be able to achieve my goals.
All contributions made to Asha for education are 100% tax deductible in the US (under section 501(c) of the IRS code).
