Running with Asha
Asha for Education is a volunteer run organization aiming to catalyze socio-economic change in India through education. The objectives of the group are:
- To provide access to education for underprivileged children in India
- To promote universal education and decrease child labor
- To support grass roots initiatives in deprived and marginalized communities in India
- To address, whenever possible, other issues affecting human life such as health care, environmental and socio-economic issues, women's issues, human rights issues, etc.
As a part of Team Asha this runner has committed to meet the above objectives through your support. Please read the runner's personal statement below and use the donate button on the right to make a contribution to the runner's objective.
Please sponsor our half marathon this year.
Why we run:
“There is no such thing as free lunch”, thats a realization thats hard to keep in mind as we go ahead with our lives and we are no different. After years of hard work and effort and achieving some milestones in life, training to run a half marathon seemed like a challenge for ourselves. A challenge that represents the plight of poor children in India and how difficult it is for them, to run their marathons/milestones in education, without a lot of resources.
This is our effort to provide resources for the ones not as lucky as us, to better their lives.
Why I started running:
Inertia is one big thing in physics. To get over it needs a lot of encouragement and constant ‘can do’ attitude. Many other times we can get a change in ourselves, and for me this is not one of those times. A constant encouragement from a friend got me into this and I will try my best to keep this going. I got Zin into running now and she is pushing me to my limits, always increasing my limits.
Why you are reading this:
A single person can definitely bring change into the lives of others, but with your help it can be a little faster. Education gives many a perspective, a perspective that helps them understand life and make decisions that keep the society running smoothly. By making this change happen faster we are insuring our own future. Please join us and contribute to this cause generously. Thank you.
Our next run:
Zin and I are running the Dallas Running Club (DRC) half marathon on November 1, 2009.
