Running with Asha
Asha for Education is a volunteer run organization aiming to catalyze socio-economic change in India through education. The objectives of the group are:
- To provide access to education for underprivileged children in India
- To promote universal education and decrease child labor
- To support grass roots initiatives in deprived and marginalized communities in India
- To address, whenever possible, other issues affecting human life such as health care, environmental and socio-economic issues, women's issues, human rights issues, etc.
As a part of Team Asha this runner has committed to meet the above objectives through your support. Please read the runner's personal statement below and use the donate button on the right to make a contribution to the runner's objective.
I strongly believe that basic education is a necessity for every person to come up in their lives and there are millions of unfortunate kids that don’t stand a chance for education due to their social and economic backgrounds. Asha has been instrumental in providing education for several of those kids. I have been volunteering with Asha for nearly a year and a half now and it has been a gratifying experience. It is very inspiring to know and be part of all the incredible projects that Asha has been sponsoring.
Like last year am running for Team Asha to raise funds to support one of their projects - Vatsalya Trust. Vatsalya Trust is a charitable organization which has been working for the past 26 years to rehabilitate destitute children in Mumbai. Asha for education will be helping out with sustenance of orphans with disability. My goal is to raise $3000 to support eight kids in this project. I request your support in helping me reach my goal. Every dollar counts and all your contributions are 100% tax deductible in the US (under section 501(c) of the IRS code).
Last year I successfully completed my first half marathon and with all your support I was able to far exceed my fund raising goal. I hope you all would continue your support this year as well and help me reach/exceed my fund raising goal. My biggest inspiration to run a half marathon again this year is to provide under-privileged children an opportunity to receive a proper education and a chance for a better future.

* $10 - Takes care of the education of a child for a complete month. Costs less than going to a movie.
* $25 - Takes care of the education and living expenses of a child for a complete month. Costs less than a dinner outside.
* $50 - Takes care of a child’s education for almost half a year. Costs less than an evening out with friends.
* $100 - Helps educate 100 rural pregnant women on infant health. Costs less than a visit to an amusement park.
* $250 - Takes care of a year’s education and living costs of an under privileged child. Costs less than a new Wii or X-BOX.
* $500 - Funds the education of a 10 year old girl until she finishes high school. Costs less than a new IKEA couch.
