Running with Asha
Asha for Education is a volunteer run organization aiming to catalyze socio-economic change in India through education. The objectives of the group are:
- To provide access to education for underprivileged children in India
- To promote universal education and decrease child labor
- To support grass roots initiatives in deprived and marginalized communities in India
- To address, whenever possible, other issues affecting human life such as health care, environmental and socio-economic issues, women's issues, human rights issues, etc.
As a part of Team Asha this runner has committed to meet the above objectives through your support. Please read the runner's personal statement below and use the donate button on the right to make a contribution to the runner's objective.

I strongly believe that everyone should have the ability and determination to reach out for their dreams. I am more than honored to be able to facilitate education and financial support for a few underpriviledged kids.
I have signed up to run half marathon to raise $1300 for this purpose. I have been with Asha for a few months now and was inspired by the cause and determination of other runners to participate. I am training with the Dallas Running Club and trying to ramp up by marathon day, Dec 15th, 2009.
I have pledged to raise $1300 to support two projects- Sarva Vidya Trust and Vatsalya Trust.
Please click on the below provided links for more information on these programs
Sarva Vidya Trust: Aims to provide girl children from economically handicapped families with a job oriented professional education in the field of paramedical. Once the girls finish their 12th grade they are encouraged to apply for nursing courses which can be a one year certification, two year diploma or 4 year BSc nursing. Once they finish their college education they are guaranteed a job as nurses in local hospitals or as home nurses by the trust. I would like to support two students through my marathon program. It costs about $300/year to support one student and covers books, exam fees, hostel accommodation, teacher’s salary and transportation.

My goal is to raise at least $1300 before December 15th, 2009. Please donate as much as you can to this worthy cause. You can choose to donate to a specific Asha project of your choice or let Asha decide how to allocate the funds. ANY AMOUNT IS APPRECIATED. Your $$ will go a long way in helping educate under-priviledged children in India.
